O have 2021 Chevy Equinox and love it. Brought it from Wiin in Carson in 2021 with 5 miles now has 19500 miles. I am extremely dissatisfied and frustrated with the complete lack of customer service and just plain common courtesy from a well-known local business. Seeking a used vehicle, and being constantly disappointed with private sellers, I saw an ad for a suitable vehicle at Harbor Chevrolet. I literally breathed a sigh of relief, as I am familiar with them and have even been a customer of sales, service and parts over the years. As soon as I got off work, I drove straight there to check the vehicle out. I inspected it, drove it and negotiated a purchase price with the salesman. I wanted my wife to also see/drive it, so I offered to leave a deposit to hold it … but was told that wasn’t necessary. The next morning, as soon as they opened, my wife arrived as promised and we purchased the vehicle outright right then and there ... taking delivery that afternoon. After less than just 48 hours of ownership, the “Check Engine” light comes on. I called the salesman and the first words out of his mouth are “you know it’s an as-is sale, right?” As a consumer who just spent quite a bit of money at their establishment, not exactly the response I was looking for. And I have worked in the automotive industry for 43 years … so yes, I am aware. Being a “Car Guy”, I have a scanner and plugged it in the moment I got home … what is troubling here is that the codes that were triggering the light were “historical” codes … meaning this is not the first time they have triggered the light to come on. This tells me 1) they did not prepare this vehicle for sale properly, or 2) they knew about the issue, turned the light off themselves and prayed it didn’t come back on while someone was on a test drive. Knowing I was not going to get any assistance from the salesman just from his words to me on my initial call, I emailed Kyle Larson, the General Sales Manager and also Mark Hibben the General Manager. Apparently one of their cash-paying patrons who is having an issue and asking for assistance is not important enough to warrant a direct response from either of them, so they never reached out. Instead, they had my salesman reach out. He told me he would talk to his used car people and get back to me “in about a week”. 10 days have in fact passed since that call … with no communication from them at all. Now, let me be clear - never did I or have I asked for or demanded a refund, never did I or have I asked for anything for free … I asked if they could take the vehicle back and inspect it properly to help identify exactly what the issue is and see what we can do together to rectify it. No outrageous demands or requests … just some assistance on their part is all I have ever asked for. Their website references “The Golden Rule” with regards to customer service … in my humble opinion, they really need to reevaluate their perception of that concept …
I recently went to Harbor Chevrolet to look at the new Silverados. I met with John Bunch and told him I was just looking. He took his time to show me around and explain some of my options and was never the pushy salesman. I came back the following week and met with him and test drove a couple of the trucks. John made the process of buying a new truck very easy. His manager Matt Hibben also was very helpful and friendly in the process and I never felt like the stories you hear about with the car buying process. The team at Harbor Chevrolet was very easy to work with and I would highly recommend them.
